Can I build up missing parts?
The simple answer is Yes. The rod can be used as filler.
For small diameter holes just flow the rod directly over the hole - there is no drip, so you can go right over the top, this makes it ideal for fixing leaks in radiators and cooling units.
For large diameter holes or to build up missing parts, use a small plate of stainless steel or steel (not galvanised) to back the hole or make a mould for the missing part.
Fill the rod into the hole or missing area until slightly larger than needed. Let this cool. Because the rod won't stick to stainless or standard steel, it will simple fall away, leaving the rebuilt part. Grind down to the desired shape and size and you have a part as good as new.
If you can't back a large hole - i.e. where it is on a water heater tank, use a patch and then weld this over the hole.
